Founded in the early 1900s by German miners who found diamonds in the field, it was abandoned 40 years later when the diamond-field started to deplete

The village had a hospital, ballroom, school, casino, etc... And is now a tourist destination

@mur2501
Well, all buildings built in that time by non-German have fallen down since
@Jonathan

@wauz
Does this means that Germans don't make good building and are not good engineers? :welp:
@Jonathan

@mur2501
No, Germans build houses to last 100 years, at least 50. We have ordinary living building older than even two centuries, with some maintenance. In the US, they now build to last 25 years. A house, that's not inhabited, will be FUBAR after a year'

British don't shy away stealing that's why they were so vast and powerful :welp:

@mur2501
In the time, there were no copyright laws, Germany was most prosperous
@Jonathan

@wauz
Its pretty strange why did Germany was not a strong colonial power. Seeing its size I think it should have easily dominated netherlands and belgium🤔
@Jonathan

@mur2501
Well, size is the issue. There was never something like nation state, beside Third Reich. The very first Reich was a bunch of several states, going apart in second generation. Then it was a rather loose federation. After Napoleon was defeated, who was trying to set up Charles The Great empire again, there were 3 major German spoken states: Prussia, Bavaria and Austria.
The 1870 Second Reich didn't include Austria.
@Jonathan

@wauz
Prussia was not much big but I think it was a powerful and influential state atleast when Catherine the Great was ruling Russia.
@Jonathan

@mur2501
Well, depends on the time. When Prussia acquainted the Rhineland, it became the industrial superpower in Germany. Bavaria was rather rural, but larger.
Prussia was dominant, when Bismarck founded Second Reich.
@Jonathan

@wauz
Catherine the Great ruled Russian while Frederick the Great was ruling Prussia
@Jonathan

@mur2501
Actually, it was the same counselling company. Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, if I remember right.
@Jonathan

@mur2501
That time, there were no counselling companies as nowadays. Ursula van der Leyen used in her time as minister of defense in Germany a big part of her budget to pay counselling companies, other departments waste a lot of money the same way...
