GoToSocial is a new type of Fediverse server which emphasises safety and privacy, as well as being lightweight so it works on low-powered or older hardware.
You can follow GoToSocial's official account at @gotosocial (which runs on a GoToSocial server itself)
GoToSocial's default character limit is 5000, and can be adjusted by the admin.
GoToSocial allows servers to choose who they federate with through a blocklist or allowlist, or to not federate at all. Blocklists and allowlists can also be imported.
There is no built-in web app so it has to be used through a Mastodon-compatible mobile app, or a third party web app such as Pinafore.
GoToSocial is currently in alpha testing, so it is still pretty buggy.
